The 2016 Suring High School commencement exercises were held May 28 in the high school gymnasium.

The candidates for graduation were Hailey Baldwin, Dylan Braun-Baugnet, Juliet Chesterfield, Sebastian Des Jarlait, Austin Fidler, Mitchell Firgens, Tyler Fuchs, Rylee Holub, Victoria Hull, Elantra Hunter, Adam Huth, Scott Juckem, Trent Lechleitner, Gracelyn Lenz, Jennifer Lynch, Robert Mahoney, Robert Neff, Richard Neldner, Marcus Runge, Elijah School, Mickey Shauger, Amber Sperberg, Jenna Steeno, Hailey Thompson, Azee Van Bellinger, Felicia Wachtendonk, Letitia Walker and Parker Wanish.

The valedictory address was presented by Lechleitner and salutatory address by Walker. A senior video presentation created by Hull and Lynch was shown. Thompson, the class president, read the senior plans. Baldwin and Lenz presented the yearbook dedication; the “2016 Soaring High” was dedicated to Greg Lechleitner.

Diplomas were presented by Dennis Piepkorn, Eugene School and Wendy Wozniak of the Suring School Board.

The magna cum laude medals for a 3.5 grade-point average or better were presented to Baldwin, Firgens, Holub, Hull, Lechleitner, Lenz, Lynch, Runge, Thompson, Van Bellinger and Walker by District Administrator Kelly Casper. The cum laude medals for a grade-point average of 3.00-3.49) were presented to Chesterfield, Huth, School, Wachtendonk and Wanish.

Departmental awards were presented to Hunter, agriculture; Walker, business education and English; Lechleitner, German and social studies; Baldwin, mathematics; Firgens, physical education; Runge, science; Mahoney, technical education; and Wanish, vocal music.

Principal Pamela Berg awarded scholarships.

The concert band under the direction of Kaci Hoverson played “Pomp and Circumstance” for the processional and “The Spirit of Freedom” for the recessional. The concert choir under the direction of Micki Carlson sang “May Our Paths Meet Again.”

Tamara Steffeck and Becky Dickson, senior class advisers, were in charge of arrangements. Shaun Wagner and Terry Garrigan were in charge of seating and ushering. National Honor Society students Katie Stegeman and Courtney Stelzer assisted with ushering, and Blake Seppel and Greta Sleeter presented the traditional flower to each graduate.
