Communities, groups plan Memorial Day observances

The annual Memorial Day parade through Oconto Falls is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. May 29, part of the four-day Memorial Day weekend celebration that begins May 26.

Groups that want to participate in the parade honoring soldiers and veterans are asked to send a registration form by May 26 to For more information, call 920-848-8293 or 920-604-0821.

Other highlights of the celebration include a modified pitch tournament Friday through Monday, fireworks Saturday night, live bands Sunday afternoon and evening, a Show-N-Shine Car & Truck Show on Monday, and a big bike giveaway for kids at the old football field after the parade.

Christman Amusements of Wautoma is staging the carnival Friday night through Monday.

American Legion Post 302 and the Auxiliary of Oconto Falls plans to hold the annual Memorial Service at 10 a.m. May 29 at the Memorial Stone in Woodlawn Cemetery, 844 S. Main St., Oconto Falls.

The high school band will perform, and Post Commander Terry Umentum will serve as master of ceremonies. Special guest speaker will be Superintendent Dean Hess, a retired veteran. Bringing a lawn chair is suggested. In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at Oconto Falls High School.

The Legion and Auxiliary will be hold a basket raffle at Memorial Field on May 27-29. All donations will be used to assist the organization’s programs.

Hillside Assembly

Hillside Assembly plans to present “Honor Due,” a program honoring military personnel, at 10 a.m. May 28. The program will feature the Hillside Choir with Anncille Engel as director and Marcy McCarthy as narrator.

The observance will reflect on the sacrifices made by many in the military over many years to ensure that Americans have freedom today. Each veteran will receive a gift to thank them for their service.

The public is invited to attend and encouraged to bring a veteran with them. Hillside Assembly is located at 5890 state Highway 22 West in Gillett. For more information, call the church office at 920-855-2962.


American Legion Doney Degrave Post 342 plans to conduct a Memorial Day service at 11:15 a.m. May 29 at Pine Hill Cemetery, a half-mile north of Spruce on County Road B. In case of rain, the service will be held at the Spruce Town Hall, 9097 County Road B.
