Greetings, Morgan! This summer is on track to be a busy one around our town. You might have noticed that the old town hall was razed during the last week of June to make room for the construction of the new hall.

The Green Valley-Morgan Fire Department was able to make one final use of the old hall for training purposes. The building was filled with smoke, and firefighters were able to complete search and rescue training, roof ventilation, and a mayday drill in the smoke-filled structure. The purpose of the mayday drill is to train firefighters how to safely rescue one of their comrades when he or she is in trouble.

The fire department has some upcoming events to mark on your calendar.

At 6 p.m. Tuesday, the Wisconsin Propane Education & Research Council is hosting a special training event at the Green Valley Fire Station, N5746 Oak Ave., Green Valley, that will focus on propane fires. There will be classroom instruction, as well as hands-on practice in controlling propane fires, including a variety of real-life scenarios. The public is welcome to observe the exercise.

The annual Green Valley-Morgan Fire Department fundraiser picnic is scheduled for Aug. 12 at the Green Valley fire station, with festivities kicking off at noon. Be sure to bring your family and enjoy food, children’s games, a car show on the ball diamond, and music by The Presidents from 7-11 p.m. Also, contact any firefighter for more information on the gun raffle or to buy tickets.

The next town board meeting will be 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Green Valley fire station.

Please note that during the construction of the new town hall, the town recycle center will remain open on Saturdays as usual, but be sure to drive on the designated path to access the center.
