Former Pastor Karl Rose will be the guest speaker at 10:15 a.m. Sunday as Christ Lutheran Church of Gillett celebrates its 125th anniversary.

Rose served the congregation, on the corner of County Road H and Red Banks Road, from 1985 to 1996. During his tenure the church basement was redecorated and a new roof was put on the church.

In 1990, the church began a major redecorating project by adding two leaded, stained-glass windows, new carpet, painting and refinishing, and adding padded seats on pews in advance of the centennial celebration in 1992. A year later, much of the church yard was blacktopped, and a stained-glass window was added above the entrance doors of the church.

The congregation invites visitors to attend Sunday’s service. The special theme is an old-fashioned Sunday. Everyone is invited to wear a hat, and men and women will be encouraged to sit on opposite sides of the church, which was a practice in the early years of the church.

The service will be followed by a potluck dinner with a pie and ice cream social.
