Gary Francis Birr, 58, of Pound, passed away at home on Oct. 25, 2017. He was born to Otis and Betty Birr on Dec. 19, 1958. He attended Oconomowoc High School. After high school, he worked for his father until taking over the family business, Birr’s Concrete and Masonry.

On Aug. 18, 1983, Gary married Beth Salnik. The couple were married for 34 years. She helped with the family business. He had a passion for hunting, fishing and gardening, especially with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching his sons play sports.

He is survived by his loving wife, Beth; four sons, Chad (Karleen), Chris (Brittany), Chase (Samantha) and Chett; six grandchildren, Dakota, Tailor, Alexus, Skylynn, Cayden and Remington; his mother, Betty; four brothers, Al (Paula), Larry (Joan), Tom (Karen) and Donnie (Tina); one sister, Shirley (Joey); a brother-in-law, Ken Salnik; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Otis; maternal grandparents, Leland and Emma Casper; paternal grandparents, Henry and Felcie Birr; and mother- and father-in-law, Ron and Charlotte Salnik.

The family sends special thanks to Dr. Volk, all of the staff of Green Bay Oncology and HSHS St. Clare hospital of Oconto Falls, Carrie Meyer, Howard Patz, the staff of Unity Hospice and Pastor Mark Kostreva for all of their care and support.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Rhodes Charapata Funeral Home in Coleman on Thursday, Nov. 2, from 9-11 a.m. The service will be at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mark Kostreva officiating.
