Girls return four sectional qualifiers

Following a season with five sectional and two state qualifiers, plus the addition of new talent, the Oconto Falls girls track team is hopeful this season.

The team brings back one state qualifier, sophomore Ericka Havemeier, and three other sectional qualifiers, senior Kennedy Kratz, junior Breanna Sadowski and senior Ricki Ludwig.

The four contributed to the team finishing first or second in half of its meets last season. The team is on pace for a similar year after placing first in five of nine events during its indoor meet on March 27, good for first place overall. The team also secured first at its first meet March 20.

“We may not have some of the powerhouse athletes we’ve had in the past, but we have a large number of strong individuals across the board,” head coach Marisssa DeMoulin said. “We have a few individuals who are new to track that I expect very promising things from. (Junior) Catt Moeller has already cleared 8-feet in the pole vault, (sophomore) Kari Albrecht looks like she will excel in both hurdles and long jump, (freshman) Autumn Magnin should do very well in the longer sprints, and I expect big things from (freshman) Amelia Rice in both high jump and mid-distance.

“Overall, I am very excited by our 2018 girls track team and cannot wait to see what they accomplish both as a team and as individuals.”

The boys team, which finished fifth at the Division 2 regional in Clintonville last season, also has several new faces.

“We have a lot of new athletes on the team and it will take some time to prepare them for the larger invites,” head coach Lon Ludemann said. “Weather seems to always be a big factor as we prepare for the season and tournament series as it has been thus far in 2018.”

The team returns a handful of seasoned athletes, including seniors Noah Kokko-Ludemann, Jaren Van Haren and Noah Stary; juniors Keeshawn Katers, Brent Wolf and Brody Schindel; and sophomores Brendan Konitzer and Evan Roberts.

So far this season, the boys finished first in the indoor meet March 27, second in the March 20 indoor and 25th at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Invitational.
