STAA/Lena 13, Niagara 5

The second-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas/Lena softball team overpowered third-seeded Niagara to claim the WIAA Division 5 regional title game over Niagara on May 25.

The co-op will take on fourth-seeded Wausaukee, which upset top-seeded Florence, in a sectional semifinal on May 29.

West De Pere 2, Oconto Falls 1

The Oconto Falls softball team came up just short of an upset win over West De Pere in a Division 2 regional semifinal on May 23.

Second-seeded West De Pere scored twice in the third inning to grab the lead. Seventh-seeded Oconto Falls cut the deficit in half with a run in the fourth, but could not push across another run the rest of the game.

Emma Huberty homered to provide the only Oconto Falls run. The long ball was the Panthers’ lone hit in the contest. Joslyn Tolzman suffered the tough loss on the mound, allowing two runs on seven hits over six innings. Tolzman struck out nine batters.

Peshtigo 11, Gillett/Suring 1

Gillett/Suring could not keep up with Peshtigo in a five-inning WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal on May 23.

Sixth-seeded Gillett/Suring scored its lone run in the fourth inning, when Faith Sorlie drove in Angel Griffin. Sorlie and Griffin had the only two hits for the co-op. Sydney Young suffered the loss in the circle, allowing 13 hits while striking out two batters in a complete game effort.

Peshtigo scored three runs in the first inning and six more in the third to take control of the game.

STAA/Lena 10, Bowler 0

Saint Thomas Aquinas/Lena blanked Bowler in a Division 5 regional semifinal on May 23.

The win advanced the co-op into the regional title game against Nigara.

Oconto Falls 15, Green Bay West 0

Seventh-seeded Oconto Falls opened up the postseason with a convincing three-inning win over 10th-seeded Green Bay West in a Division 2 regional playoff clash on May 22. The Panthers scored 13 runs in the first inning to seize control of the contest.

Katelyn Albrecht and Emma Huberty each drove in three runs for Oconto Falls while Kaelyn Allen and Joslyn Tolzman each had two RBI. Taylor Ash scored three runs.

Haley Bell pitched the first two innings for the Panthers to pick up the win. Bell struck out four batters while allowing two hits. Allen struck out three batters in an inning of work.


Clintonville 5, Oconto Falls 4

The Clintonville baseball team rallied past Oconto Falls in a Division 2 regional opener on May 24.

Oconto Falls took a 4-0 lead through three innings before Clintonville scored twice in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh to win it.

Sam Virtues drove in two runs for Oconto Falls while Connor Peetz and Brett Proctor each had one RBI. Mason Sefcik allowed two runs over five innings while Virtues surrendered three runs, only one of which was earned, across the final two innings. Sefcik struck out seven batters during his time on the hill.

Coleman 8, Gillett/Suring 0

Coleman blanked Gillett/Suring in a Division 3 regional opener on May 24.

Sean Krueger and Ethan Hischke each tallied a hit for the co-op in the loss. Hischke worked four innings on the mound, allowing seven runs, only two of which were earned, while striking out three batters. Jeremy Missall allowed an unearned run while pitching 1⅔ innings before Krueger got an out.

Gresham 12, STAA/Lena 1

The third-seeded Saint Thomas Aquinas/Lena co-op could not slow down third-seeded Gresham in a Division 4 regional opener on May 24.

Gresham advanced and will travel to take on second-seeded Green Bay NEW Lutheran on May 29.


Morris qualifies for sectionals

The Oconto Falls boys golf team took eighth place while competing in the Division 2 Bonduel Regional on May 22, finishing with a team score of 395.

Ryan Morris shot an 18-hole round of 86 to finish among the top-four golfers that were not part of a sectional qualifying team, earning an individual spot in sectionals. Morris will take part in the Ripon Sectional on May 29.

Clayton Rathsack fired a round of 90 while Odin Halvorsen shot a 106. Camden Jackson (113) and Chase Pecha (115) rounded out the team score.

Shafman leads Suring at regional

Greg Shafman led a trio of Suring golfers at the Division 3 Lena Regional on May 22, firing a round of 129.

Johnathan Heroux (155) and Cole Watts (166) also competed as individuals for Suring.

Lena had two individuals compete in the regional. Dalton Thomson fired a 148 while Brance Bethke shot a 166.
