Suring’s Mitch Stegeman and Gillett’s Sylvia Hansen each qualified for the state track meet in two events while competing in the Division 3 Marathon Sectional on May 24.

Stegeman won the pole vault and finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles to qualify for state. Hansen took second in the 1,600 and 3,200.

Gillett’s Bo Krueger (discus) and Derek Hanson (1,600) each placed fourth to earn spots at state. Aubrey DeBauch won the 300 hurdles to earn her spot at state.

Havemeier qualifies for state

Oconto Falls’ Ericka Havemeier earned a second-place finish in the 200 to qualify for the state meet while competing at the Division 2 Freedom Sectional on May 24.

No other Panthers’ athletes qualified for the state meet.

Suring boys first, Gillett girls third at regional

The Gillett boys track team cruised to a regional title at the Division 3 Suring Regional on May 21, scoring 149.3 points. Any individuals placing in the top-four advanced to sectionals.

Mitch Stegeman led the team with first-place finishes in the pole vault and 300 hurdles and second-place finishes in the 110 hurdles and high jump. Mike Lynch took second in the 400 and third in the 200. Johnathon Miller finished second in the shot put and third in the discus while Ryan Mahoney placed second in the long jump and fourth in triple jump.

Jayden Geniesse (3,200-third and 1,600-fourth), Logan Stuart (shot put-fourth) and Jeffrey Miller (discus-fourth) also advanced to sectionals. All four of the relay teams also qualified for sectionals. The 4x400 team of Mahoney, Stuart, Connor Giese and Lynch and the 4x800 team of Mahoney, Geniesse, Dominque Noack and Giese each came in first. The 4x100 quartet of Jeffrey Miller, Dequez Sepulveda, Stuart and Kegyn Lambrecht took third while the 4x200 team of Jeffrey Miller, Sepulveda, Maequin Largo and Lambrecht came in fourth.

The Gillett girls placed third at the regional, earning 88 team points.

Sylvia Hansen took first in the 1,600 and 3,200 to lead the team while Aubrey DeBauch took first in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the long jump and 100 hurdles. Lauren Herzog finished second in the 1,600, Grace Wickman was fourth in discus while Karissa Schaal placed second in the shot put and discus. The girls 4x400 relay team of DeBauch, Emily Hairapetian, Emily Horsens and Herzog also qualified for sectionals by taking first.

The Suring girls came in sixth with 56.5 points. Linzy Runge led the team with a second-place finish in the 100 hurdles. Kylee Stelzer (400), Runge (300 hurdles) and Grace Fischer (pole vault) all placed fourth. The 4x800 relay team of Jazmine Chesterfield, Ava Hill, Fischer and Claire Anderson advanced to sectionals by taking fourth.

The St. Thomas Aquinas/Lena girls finished eighth with 41 points. Kennedy Marquardt (200) and Alexis Misco (800) each came in third in their respective events. The 4x100 relay team of Brianna Sylvester, Marquardt, Catie Kramer and Desirae Hurning also came in third. Hurning (100) and Sylvester (triple jump), along with the 4x200 relay team of Edee Zhang, Emily Lange, Kramer and Mikayla Mahas each took fourth.

The Gillett boys earned 52 points to come in seventh. Bo Krueger took first in the discus while the 4x800 relay team of Adam Anderson, Sam Lemens, Riley Engebretsen and Andy Lemens placed second. Derek Hanson came in third in the 1,600 while Sven Meier (200) and Engebretsen (3,200) each took fourth. Sam Davis, Meier, Andy Lemens and Anderson formed the 4x400 relay team that took third.

The St. Thomas Aquinas/Lena boys scored 12 points but had not individuals or relay teams advance to sectionals.

Oconto Falls girls sixth at regional

The Oconto Falls girls and boys team competed in the Division 2 Clintonville Regional on May 21, scoring 62 and 40 points, respectively.

Ericka Havemeier (200) and Autumn Canavera (400) led the girls team with second-place finishes. Breanna Sadowski took fourth in the 1,600 while the 4x200 relay team of Kennedy Kratz, Katie Kurth, Autumn Magnin and Havemeier also advanced to sectionals after placing fourth.

Dakota Carriveau led the boys by placing second in the shot put. The 4x800 relay team of Brody Schindel, Noah Ludemann, Jared VanHaren and Evan Roberts took third while Brent Wolf finished fourth in the 300 hurdles.
