Joan and Ron Korzeniewski of Morgan volunteered their garden as one of six host sites for the Northern Gardeners Club Garden Walk on July 21. Their gardens feature many unique, handmade touches, such as the bridge pictured here. (Photo by Megan Oswald)

Greetings, Morgan, and I hope your summer is going well so far. To make your summer memories more beautiful this year, I urge you to join in a new summer event.

The Northern Gardeners Club is hosting an area Garden Walk on Saturday, July 21, to coincide with Pulaski Polka Days. The Garden Walk is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with admission being $10 for adults and free for children ages 12 and under. Wristbands are available at any of the host gardens on the day of the event.

One of the six host gardens is that of Morgan residents Joan and Ron Korzeniewski, 9460 Schroeder Road. I recently had the pleasure of previewing their extensive gardens and learning about the changes on their property over the years. From talking with Joan and Ron, their yard is like a living album of their gardening hobby, with certain plants reminding each of them of specific family members and friends.

Countless hours are spent tending both their flower garden and vegetable garden. Since deer are frequent visitors to their yard, an electric fence protects much of the garden. Many species of plants thrive on the Korzeniewskis’ property, including clematis, day lilies, peonies, hydrangeas, lilacs and other ornamental shrubs, just to name a few.

Joan’s favorite flower is the delphinium, and many healthy examples adorn the property. Ron especially likes the unusual castor bean plant, which is noted for its striking appearance.

The Northern Gardeners Club is a group of more than 85 members from the area. As a club, members tour gardens in the summer months and learn more about gardening-related topics from speakers the rest of the year. If interested in joining the club, please feel free to talk with club members at the Garden Walk. In addition to the Korzeniewskis’ garden, the other host sites are located at N2257 Green Valley Road in Pulaski, 4442 Anston Road in Green Bay, 4308 Annabell Circle in Green Bay, N4844 Main Street in Krakow, and 1186 Riverwood Lane in Sobieski. Hope to see you there, neighbor.

In other town news, please mark your calendar for the Green Valley-Morgan Fire Department annual picnic on Saturday, Aug. 11. Please also remember to vote in the fall primary election on Tuesday, Aug. 14.
