Roger Firgens, 64, of Suring, passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2018, after a battle with brain cancer, surrounded by his family and friends. Roger was born on July 26, 1953, to Elmer and Betty (Schuettpelz) Firgens at the Oconto Falls Hospital. Roger grew up in Breed on the Firgens Farm. He attended the Suring School and graduated with the class of 1971. Roger continued his education with an agriculture class at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He returned to Suring where he worked at Memline, where he met his wife, Erika, in 1975. Roger and Erika married in 1978 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hayes. Roger and Erika started their family, having four wonderful children: Joshua, Samantha, Adam and Ethan. Roger finished his career as the Safety Director at Diversified Woodcraft Inc. for the last 15 years.

Roger was an active member in the community, including coaching baseball and softball for 25 years. He was also a member of many local organizations including the Suring Lions Club, Suring Volunteer Fire Department, Lutheran Laymen’s League, St. John Lutheran Church in Hayes, Maple Valley Board, Suring Dartball League, Trouts Unlimited and the Suring Labor Day Committee. Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his dog Gus at the farm and being with his sons. He enjoyed spending time with Adam and Ethan on their annual Canada fishing trip.

Roger is survived by his wife, Erika; four children, Joshua (Mandi) Firgens, Samantha (Kevin) Randall, Adam (special friend Jamie Whiting) Firgens, and Ethan (Lexie) Firgens; five grandchildren, Clara and Rylan Firgens, Baby Firgens; Amelia and Aubree Randall; sisters and brothers, Nancy (Eugene) Krueger, Anita (Jeff) Suring, and Werner Lenz; nieces and nephews, Mark (Kim) Krueger, Paul (Becky) Krueger, Brad (Kimberly) Krueger, Neil (Michelle) Krueger, Chuck Krueger, Eric (special friend Amber) Suring, Leslie (Scott) School; god-daughter, Jennifer Fenendael. He is further survived by many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Betty; brother, Gary; sister, Becky; grandson, Max Randall; along with other aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be on Sunday, July 8, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church, Hayes, from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral service at 4 p.m. with Pastor Nick Buchholz officiating.
