The Oconto Falls volleyball team is loaded with upperclassmen hoping to turn their experience into a deep postseason run. Setter Emma Huberty, one of seven seniors on the roster, is one of the Panthers’ best weapons on the court, setting up the team’s hitters with perfect passes and occasional tips over the net to catch opposing teams off guard.

Following last Thursday’s loss to Luxemburg-Casco, Huberty had recorded 538 of the Panthers’ 602 assists on the year. The senior also has totaled 122 digs and 32 service aces.

Q: When did your interest in volleyball begin?

A: I didn’t really play volleyball until middle school. I found out about it in sixth grade when we had intramurals. I fell in love with it then.

Q: What’s your favorite part about a volleyball match or the volleyball season?

A: My favorite part about the volleyball match would be when our team is on a roll and everyone is pumped up. My favorite part about the season is seeing the team come together. Also, I love bonding with the team and becoming really close with everyone. You learn so much about your teammates, and it improves how you play with each other on the court.

Q: You have enjoyed a really successful high school career. What has helped you become the player you are today?

A: I think that because I have been playing with the same people throughout my whole career, we have all made each other better. We push each other and know what we are capable of.

Q: What things do you and the team need to continue working on as the season progresses to be ready for the postseason?

A: We need to continue working on staying positive. Volleyball is all about momentum, and so we need to stay positive and get excited after every point. That’s when we do the best.

Q: What’s your favorite memory of competing on the Oconto Falls volleyball team?

A: My favorite memory would be the postseason of my sophomore year. I was nervous because it was my first year on varsity, but everyone on the team welcomed me. We did pretty good in the postseason, and I loved the atmosphere that we had from all of the fans.

Q: Do you have any rituals you go through before matches?

A: The whole team gets together before the match, and we each say two personal goals that we have for the match. We then start a cheer where we are all screaming, and it gets us all pumped up for the game.

Q: Do you look up to any particular athletes? If so, why them?

A: Oconto Falls volleyball has always had a strong program, so I look up to the players from previous years. I would go and watch the high school team as I was younger, and I admired how well they played. I also really love watching the Wisconsin Badger team. They are a great team and super fun to watch.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do when you are not in school or competing in a high school sport?

A: I really like nature, so I spend a lot of time outdoors. I like to go hiking or on nature trails, and I also like to be out on the water pontooning. On the other hand, I also love staying inside watching movies or shopping with my friends.

Q: Favorite TV show, movie, musical artist?

A: I love “The Office,” “Clueless” and Beyonce.

Q: Name one thing about yourself that not many people know.

A: Sushi is my favorite food, and I don’t like scary movies.

Q: Do you have a favorite quote, verse or lyrics from a song?

A: “Love ya sista!” — Oconto Falls coach Rochell Otto
