GIRLS BASKETBALL

Menominee (Mich) 71, Gillett 62

The Tigers could not hold a three-point halftime lead in an eventual loss to Menominee (Michigan) in the championship game of the Gillett Holiday Tournament on Friday (Dec. 28).

Aubrey DeBauch totaled 27 points, 19 rebounds and six assists to lead Gillett. She was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts during Thursday’s and Friday’s games.

Karissa Schaal added 20 points and stole five passes, while Sydney Young finished with seven points and three steals. Brianna DeBauch had eight rebounds and five assists.

Gillett 56, Oconto 42

The Tigers opened the Gillett Holiday Tournament by taking down the Blue Devils on Thursday (Dec. 27).

Aubrey DeBauch led Gillett with 19 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals. Karissa Schaal added 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Sydney Young scored nine points, while Brianna DeBauch had six.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Wisconsin Valley Lutheran 44, Gillett 29

The Tigers could not solve Wisconsin Valley Lutheran’s defense in an Elcho Tournament clash on Friday (Dec. 28). Gillett was outscored by 12 in the second half.

Cole Long led the Tigers with nine points; Elijah Framnes had seven. Logan Krause chipped in with six points.

Long also pulled down eight rebounds, while Framnes had six steals.

Valley Christian 68, Lena 55

The Wildcats fell short in a Lena Tournament clash against the Warriors on Friday (Dec. 28).

Max Beyer poured in 24 points to pace Lena on the offensive end. Beyer hit six of the team’s nine 3-pointers in the contest.

Colby Borchert added 14 points, while Logan Shallow added 11.

Gillett 55, Elcho 44

The Tigers topped the hosting Hornets in a Elcho Tournament matchup on Thursday (Dec. 27). Gillett outscored Elcho by eight in the second half to pull away.

Cole Long led a balanced Tigers’ attack with 17 points, while Logan Block and Logan Krause each added 13 points. Elijah Framnes chipped in with 10 points.

Long also led Gillett with 14 rebounds. Krause dished out seven assists; Framnes had six steals.

Stockbridge 75, Lena 50

The Wildcats could not keep pace with Stockbridge in their first Lena Tournament matchup on Thursday (Dec. 27).

Colby Borchert led Lena with 28 points and hit 10-of-11 free throws on the night. No other Wildcat scored more than six points.

Lena was outscored 46-28 in the first half.

WRESTLING

Panthers finish 5th at Bi-State Classic

Oconto Falls ended the year strong by placing fifth at the Bi-State Classic at the La Crosse Center on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 28-29). The Panthers earned 122.5 points to tie for fifth with Lewiston-Altura/Rushford-Peterson.

Jager Eisch (113) and Clayton Whiting (152) each placed fourth in their respective weight classes with 5-2 records. Collin Schindel (120) came in eighth after posting a 5-3 record.

Aidan Stary (182), Wyatt Borkovec (160) and Bodee Woods (138) all went 3-2.

Fieck earns two wins for Lena/STAA

Richard Fieck led the Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy co-op by earning two wins at the loaded Lourdes On the Water Classic at the Kolf Sports Center in Oshkosh on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 28-29).

Fieck went 2-2 at the invite, claiming both his wins by pin in the 285 class.

Cody Dellise (145) and Kiko Cajigas (160) finished the classic with 1-2 records.
