Middle and high school students from across Wisconsin will descend upon Oconto Falls High School from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday for the Northeast Wisconsin VEX Robotics Challenge.

More than 30 teams will come together for a nonstop, action-packed day where they will compete against each other with robots created from the VEX Robotics Design System. Participants will square off in this season’s game, “Turning Point,” developed by VEX Robotics Inc. and the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation.

The competition is being hosted by Team Green 4-H Robotics Club from Oconto County. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public. Team Green will have two teams in the competition.

This is the 10th season for the Team Green Robotics Project, which creates hands-on opportunities for Oconto County students to learn about the science, technology, engineering and mathematics principles involved in robotics, while also encouraging teamwork, leadership and problem solving.

The Northeast Wisconsin VEX Robotics Challenge is one in a series of tournaments supported by the REC Foundation and various national, regional and local sponsors. Local sponsors include Oconto Electric Cooperative, Oconto County 4-H and IBEW Green Bay Electrical Workers.

The competition season culminates in April, with the top-performing teams from local and state VEX Robotics Competitions competing against each other at the VEX Robotics National and World Championships. At the championships, these teams will have the opportunity to challenge their top-ranked peers from across the nation, as well as others from around the world.

Qualifying matches are scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., followed by alliance selection and the finals between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. The day culminates with an awards ceremony from 4:30-5 p.m.
