The Pulaski Community School District (PCSD) Board of Education has named Tony Klaubauf the district’s interim superintendent.

Klaubauf’s career in education spans more than 35 years. In 2018, he retired as district administrator for the Denmark School District, a position he had held since 2004. He began his career as an elementary teacher in 1981.

The Pulaski Board of Education announced last week it has decided to seek an interim superintendent for the 2019-20 school year. It plans to renew its search for a superintendent in fall 2020.

Superintendent Bec Kurzynske is leaving at the end of this school year. The board’s top choice for a successor decided not to accept the position.

“PCSD is a high-performing district where many great things are happening by and for students,” Klaubauf said. “This district is strongly supported by the community, and I’m excited at the opportunity to be a part of it. I look forward to working with staff, students and the community and continuing the many successful initiatives underway at the district.”

The Board is finalizing details of an interim contract with Mr. Klaubauf, with a term expected to run from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020.

“We are pleased to have someone as experienced and respected as Tony serve as interim superintendent,” said Board President Michael Voelker. “We are confident that his proven capabilities will keep the district moving forward as we renew our search for a superintendent later this year.”

“Retaining the services of an experienced interim superintendent will enable the district to continue its current success and best serve the needs of students and the community, while positioning the district to search for a superintendent at a better time in the calendar year,” the board said in announcing its decision to postpone the search for a permanent replacement for Kurzynske.

Restarting the search at this point in the school year would not allow the board time to provide opportunities for stakeholders, including community members, parents, and district employees, to have input in the process, including through advisory interview panels and a public Q&A, the announcement said.
