As the track and field season begins to wind down, athletes are hoping to start peaking and be posting their best times and distances of the season. Oconto Falls High School senior Jacob Saari seems to on his way to doing just that.

In the team’s most recent invite in Peshtigo on Thursday, Saari claimed fourth in the 400-meter dash and helped the Panthers 4x400 relay team place third.

Saari was second in the 400 and helped the 4x400 team to second in the Oconto Falls Invitational on April 25. Just two days earlier, he won the 400 at the Wrightstown Triangular.

Q: When did your interest in track and field begin?

A: Freshman year.

Q: What’s your favorite part about a track and field meet or season?

A: My favorite part of a track meet is running around the last corner in the 4x400-meter relay and the crowd is next to the track on the infield. Everyone is cheering and it’s just the best experience.

Q: What’s your favorite memory of competing on the Oconto Falls track and field team?

A: My favorite memory on the track team is after I ran the 400 meter dash this year. Mr. (Lon) Ludemann told me that he will never have me not run a 400 again.

Q: What serves as your motivation while competing?

A: My motivation for running is to push my limits every race.

Q: How did you train for the track and field season?

A: Throughout the school year I built muscle by lifting weights and going to the gym.

Q: Do you have any individual goals you hope to accomplish this year?

A: I hope to be in the 53s (seconds) for the 400-meter dash by the end of the season.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do when you are not in school or competing in a high school sport?

A: When I’m not in school I like to play my guitars and banjo.

Q: Favorite movie?

A: “The Princess Bride.”

Q: Name one thing about yourself that not many people know.

A: Something that not many people know about me is that I love to work on the wood lathe and make projects with wood.

Q: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

A: My dad (Chad) told me, “Do your best and let God take care of the rest.”
