The Oconto Falls High School softball team enjoyed a strong regular season and was able to upset Denmark to win a regional title on Thursday. It’s been a total team effort during the team’s playoff run, with senior Katelyn Albrecht playing her part batting in the heart of the Panthers lineup and playing strong defense from her shortstop position.

In Oconto Falls’ 7-0 regional semifinal win over Freedom on May 21, Albrecht drove in a run on a hit and sacrifice fly. In the team’s 5-0 regional title win over Denmark, Albrecht walked, reached on an error and had a sacrifice bunt.

Q: When did your interest in softball begin?

A: When I started T-ball at 5 with my mom (Jennie) as the coach and my sister (Kari) playing in her one and only year of softball. It was fun having them both be a part of my my first experience in softball.

Q: What’s your favorite part about a softball game or season?

A: My favorite part is being able to step on a field and immediately feeling at home with some great teammates around me. I love celebrating after every play someone makes because that makes the game feel electric.

Q: What’s your favorite memory of competing on the Oconto Falls softball team?

A: After every play I made, I look over at third and Taylor’s (Ash) standing there with a smile on her face calling me a stud.

Q: What serves as your motivation while competing?

A: The feeling I get when we win a game gives me the motivation to do my best every play.

Q: What does the team need to continue doing well to keep the season alive?

A: We need to stay together and keep smacking the ball. I think it’s important too that we keep our energy up every inning of every game here on out.

Q: What are you going to miss most about high school softball?

A: I’m gonna miss practice everyday because we just joke around and have fun. I’m really going to miss these girls because we’ve had so much fun this season, I hate to see it end.

Q: In the span of a month or so, you made your college athletic decision official and also were named to the WFSCA All-Star Game. Talk about how you were able to stay focused on the diamond with so many other things going on in your life?

A: I was able to enjoy the celebrations off the field but once it was time to play, everything seemed to melt away and I was able to play in the moment.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do when you are not in school or competing in a high school sport?

A: I love spending time with family and friends doing anything and everything or watching professional sports with my dad (Cory).

Q: Favorite TV show, movie and musical artist?

A: TV show: “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Friends.” Movie: “The Fast and the Furious” movies. Musical artist: Thomas Rhett and Keith Urban.

Q: Name one thing about yourself that not many people know.

A: It’s probably for the best, but I can’t golf to save my life.

Q: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

A: My parents always tell me to surround myself with people who love and care about me because they make the successes all the more exciting. They have been there for me and it means the world to me that I can share every one of my accomplishments with them and my siblings because they are by far my number one supporters.
