Man’s body recovered from river in Oconto Falls

The body of a Little Chute man was recovered June 2 in the Oconto River near River Island Golf Course in Oconto Falls.

Authorities say Nhia Yang, 38, was fishing a day earlier south of the dam with some younger relatives when they got separated. At 9:01 p.m. June 1, the Oconto County Sheriff’s Department Emergency Dispatch Center received a report he was missing.

A search team consisting of Sheriff’s Department personnel, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Oconto Falls Police, Fire and EMS deployed into the early morning hours to search the area but did not locate the missing person.

The search resumed at 10 a.m. the next day, joined by the Brazeau Dive Team, covering the river, shoreline and numerous islands Yang’s body was recovered.

The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.
