Suring standout makes presence felt on court

Suring High School standout Mitchell Stegeman got to enjoy one final high school basketball game, competing in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 5 All-Star Game at JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells on June 15.

Stegeman was a member of the White All-Stars team, which dropped a tight 87-81 final to the Red All-Stars.

Despite the loss on the court, Stegeman enjoyed being a teammate of and playing against some of the top senior talent in the entire state.

“I had a great time,” Stegeman said. “My teammates were really fun and I had a great time hanging out with them. It was also really cool to learn the different styles of play that other teams around the state have.”

“It was also fun to play with and against the top players in the state. During the week, we scrimmaged all the divisions and it was such a change of pace from what I’m used to.”

Stegeman contributed on both end of the court for his team, knocking down a 3-pointer while also grabbing six rebounds and blocking a shot.

The White All-Stars held a two-point lead after a quarter but were outscored 42-31 over the next two periods. The team’s comeback attempt in the final quarter came up just short.

Stegeman will now prepare for his collegiate athletic career. He will compete for the UW-Eau Claire track and field team.
