Michael Friedman has enjoyed a strong running career, from his time competing at Oconto Falls High School and then at the college level for UW-Stout.

Friedman added another running accomplishment to his name after finishing fourth among male runners at the 10K Bellin Run on June 8 in Green Bay.

“It was awesome to be able to race the Bellin again after five years,” said Friedman, who took 43rd place in the race that year. “It always fell on a rest period for us after track season finished up, and I was never able to do it. This year, I decided to do the race with some of my teammates who just graduated to kind of see how much fitness I still had after taking a short break after our track season.”

Friedman’s fourth-place finish came in a time of 32 minutes, 43 seconds.

That time was the tops among male athletes in the 19-24 age class and also the best mark in the open male class.

Jared Ward, an Olympian, won the race in 29:45, while defending champion Brendan Gregg took second in 30:13. Andy Beck was third in 32:33.

A total of 8,616 runners finished the race, with 3,730 males competing.

“I’m going to remember being able to race with my teammates and being encouraged by my parents (Ron and Karen) and others after the race,” said Friedman.

Friedman, who said he has been running since he was in sixth grade, has competed on the Stout cross-country and track and field teams. His first-place finish in the 10,000-meter run at the WIAC Championship during the 2018 outdoor track and field season serves as his best memory of running.

Friedman will compete for the cross-country team this fall after wrapping up his track and field career this spring.
