Robert M. Fischer, 90 of Gillett, entered into eternal rest on Friday, June 28, 2019. Robert was born in the Town of Underhill on Feb. 24, 1929, to the late Hugo Fischer and Paula (Runge) Weber. He graduated from Gillett High School with the Class of 1946. On Oct. 25, 1950, Robert was drafted into the United States Army. He served honorably with the 40th Infantry Division, 625th Field Artillery Battalion, and Battery C. Robert was shipped to Japan and then on to Korea where he was in the Fire Direction Center until he was discharged on Oct. 15, 1952. While serving, he met many comrades whom he stayed close to all his life.

On March 20, 1954, Robert married Martha Krueger at Christ Lutheran Church, Hintz. Robert began farming in the Town of Underhill and his love for farming continued all his life. He also had a great affection for hunting and shared his land with friends and family. Some of Robert’s many passions included baseball, hunting, fishing, and golfing. Robert was an avid reader. He walked with the Lord by his side his entire life as a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Hintz.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Martha, and their six children, Ralph Fischer, Rebecca Edler, Susan (Rich) Ladwig, Ruth Fischer, Amy (Lou) Williams, and Ellen Matson. He is further survived by 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; many nieces and nephews; his brother, Roger (Mary) Fischer of Bowler; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Siegel of Watertown, Dolores (Jake) Jacobson of Berry Lake, Kerianna (Martin) Fuhrmann of Oshkosh; brothers-in-law, David (Karen) Krueger of Milwaukee and Doug (Kathy) Krueger of Gillett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Herbert Weber; brother-in-law, Roger Krueger; sister-in-law, Carol Lynch.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Christ Lutheran Church, Hintz, from noon until the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Michael Paholke officiating. Robert will be interred in Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at
